As you surf the net, you will come across a wide variety of business opportunities. Invariably, each one will claim to have the best compensation plan available and many will claim to offer "residual income". However, a cursory examination of many of these pay plans will reveal that, although there may be a very real earning opportunity, it cannot truly be described as residual income.

What exactly is residual income anyway? Simply put, residual income can be defined as any payment system where you receive regular, ongoing payments as a result of a single sale. The frequency of the payments may vary - they could be weekly, monthly, quarterly etc. - but they are regular and ongoing with no further selling activity once the initial sale has been made.

Some potential residual income opportunities are listed below:

Telephone calls and line rental Mobile phone supply, line rental and calls. Electricity supply . Gas supply. Web hosting supply. Autoresponder supply (monthly rental). Any software which is supplied based on a rental basis. Property rental.

These are just a few examples, there are plenty more. Any product or service which is provided on a lease or rental agreement has the potential to provide you with residual income. Ideally, your customer will automatically renew each week/month without any requirement for action (effort) by either your or your customer.

There may also be some scope for residual income with disposable or consumable products. In this case, the mechanics of the reorder process have a critical bearing upon your earning capabilities. For true residual income, the reorder process should be automatic as described above. This is not simply a matter of semantics or a pedantic definition. There are several reasons why you should target genuine residual income.

Many people who set up their own small home business do so with the express intent of eventually replacing their salary. Due to the regular nature of the payments, residual income is ideal for this. In fact, it's considerably better than having a salary as you continue to get paid for work that was done in the past.

With genuine residual income, the automated reorder process means that you don't have to spend time servicing and supporting your existing customers. You can focus your energies on finding new customers and/or recruiting new distributors/affiliates, thereby continually growing your business at the fastest possible rate.

If your customer needs to take some action to reorder then, even with a consumable product that needs to be replenished periodically, there is a "break point" in the process. The customer may decide to economise and do without the product that month, they may decide to use one of your (many) competitors or they might just simply forget to order.

With an automated reorder system on the other hand, your customer needs to make a positive effort not to reorder. It's a well known fact that customers who pay for products and services by subscription are much more loyal and less likely to cancel. Even if they do decide to opt out they tend to delay this for longer than they would otherwise.

Think about it for a moment. Have you ever kept a subscription running for longer than you intended, or do you know someone else who has? Perhaps you might even have some small but regular subscription running right now that you've completely forgotten about.

That, of course, is the reason why many companies will give you a reduction in the standard rate if you set up a subscription agreement. Reader's digest know the value of this. So do telephone companies, electricity companies, internet service providers and software providers around the world. Now you know about it too - take advantage if you possibly can.

Finally - and let's not kid ourselves here - many people don't like selling. There are ways round this and it's possible to minimise the discomfort some people feel - but it's still there at some level for many of us.

Picture the scene. You've just made a sale, you feel great and you're already thinking about how you're going to spend you hard earned money. Then it hits you - you've got to do it all again this afternoon, tomorrow, next week. Takes the gloss off a bit - right?

Now think about a slightly different scenario. You've just made a sale. Your new customer has signed a repeat subscription agreement and you are going to benefit for months, if not years to come. Is that a better home movie? I think it is.

There are other benefits of residual income but, for the sake of brevity, I hope that those already discussed above provide sufficient compulsion for you to actively seek out at least one residual income stream.

To summarise, genuine residual income will help you maximise the returns on your efforts and build a solid, reliable and predictable income from your home business. You need it.

Serious discussions and negotiations have been taking place regarding the possibility of constructing windmills off of the coasts of the States of Delaware and Maryland. During the warmer months of the year, this resort area blossoms in population to nearly 500,000 people and efforts in Ocean City, MD through conventions and festivals have made it almost a year round destination.

With these big crowds comes the need for lots of electrical power and the question of how to supply it. Recent attempts to construct windmills atop of some of Western Maryland's mountains failed mainly because the huge structures would be an eyesore to the currently beautiful views.

The windmills which are being contemplated for the ocean waters would be nearly 25 stories tall. It is likely that they would be located at least 3 miles off shore where federal waters begin, but more likely would be closer to 12 miles off shore to keep them out of view. The trade off would be a higher cost for the additional cabling required to go the extra distance out to sea, however, this would then have minimum impact on the main reason why people flock to this region, which is, of course, the sand, the surf, and the sun.

The governors of Maryland and Delaware support the idea as do government representatives of Ocean City, provided the windmills are out of sight. However, also, to be considered is the environment and how these structures might impact the ocean wildlife. Practical knowledge does exist regarding the potential impact, because windmills have been used off of the coasts of England and Belgium for several years with no significant impact on the environment.

With a free and plentiful supply of wind which should not effect industry or property values it sounds like a winning scenario for many people. And who knows maybe these giant fans could be cranked up in reverse to blow hurricanes off shore or to increase the wave size to allow for great surfing opportunities . . . or not.

So your looking at the hottest gadget around wondering which is the best iPod and you are probably looking at the same wall of problems that many people face every day. Which one is best? Where do you buy it from? Whats the best price? How much memory do you need?

I faced the same issues and as I am now on my third, yes third, I thought an article on the best iPod and the best iPod price would be a great idea and help a lot of people out.

Right, getting straight down to business. The different types of iPod.

iPod Touch - The most advanced of them all, touch screen technology, games, photo and video storage. An amazing handheld entertainment system really. Oh and you can also surf the net on it. Prices start at £152 new or £124 used.

iPod Classic - This is the original iPod, the most standard of them all along with the shuffle. Looks great and now comes in a standard memory size that can hold up to 30,000 songs. No fancy business here just a cool mp3 for Apple fans. Prices start at 2

iPod Nano - Sleek and tall and even thinner than before in the newest model. Also has some new software features inside making finding your tracks a lot easier. Prices start at £97 new or as low as £79 used.

iPod Shuffle - The budget model but still a good buy. It can hold around 240 tracks which is nowhere near the memory capacity of the other iPods but never the less that's still a lot of music. New £31 Used £25.

All of the above models come with varying memory size apart from the classic which has 120Gb as standard. When choosing your iPod take this into account and think about how much music your wanting to store.

If you work on the rough guide that 1Gb will store up to about 150 songs you should then be able to choose the right one when buying your iPod online.

So which is the best iPod?
Hands down it has to be the iPod Touch. It is the must have gadget of 2009 and with all the features it has its beats the other models hands down. Yes it is one of the more expensive models and for larger memories you can pay in excess of over £200.

But think about all the storage of videos and photos and think of the fun and convenience of being able to surf the net and even watch YouTube videos wherever you are?!

It's the best iPod purchase by far, looks great, touch screen actually works and considering the iPod classic can be around a similar range why would you want a basic model when you can get all the software and feature of the Touch?

So what stores have the best price for your iPod and where is the best place to buy, whatever model you choose?

I have always bought my iPods from Amazon but I thought I would hunt around the web to see if there are any better deals.

After a few minutes searching the closest competitors were Argos and the official I-Store but still no one could beat Amazon. Not only is Amazon cheaper for the actual unit but they also offer free delivery and have access to a lot of extras such as protective screens, some at package discounts when purchased together.

You may also consider buying a used model if your budget is small. Not something you can do unless you go to eBay but there's all kinds of issues when you do that!

Here's a quick price rundown comparing the iPod Touch 8gb.

I-Store = £165
